The British Columbia Funeral Association is committed to enrolling students who meet all our program admission criteria (Highschool Graduation, be 19 years of age) and who are likely to succeed in meeting their education and career goals.

The pre-apprentice Foundation Program provides the student with basic knowledge plus credit towards an apprenticeship in Funeral Services. As a Foundation Program student, you are not required to be employed by a licensed funeral provider.

Holders of a BC Certificate of Completion from Skilled Trades BC in the BC Embalmer and Funeral Director Foundation Program will receive Level One technical training credit for the following programs: Embalmer & Funeral Director Apprentice, Funeral Director Apprentice or Embalmer Apprentice.

One option for entry to the funeral service profession is offered through the Foundation Program.

  • Provides introduction to basic theory required for study/employment in the funeral service profession.
  • May be obtained prior to securing employment as an Embalmer and/or Funeral Director.
  • Meets the competency standards of a Level One apprentice.
  • Upon completion graduates must find employment and complete work experience requirements for Level One and Level Two.

The British Columbia Funeral Association is the training service provider for the BC Funeral Services Foundation Program and under Agreement with Skilled Trades BC who funds a portion of the foundation student’s tuition fees.
